  •  Images in a Simple Frameset:

    How do I protect? [ top ]

    In CC Manager:
    1. Retrieve testsite/qamall (Get List).
    2. Open the directory: frames_singleset and un-protect all images in this directory to avoid interference with this test.
    3. Sort cc mgr by image path name. You are looking for all images stored under two different path names:
      (1) /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/garden_img/ ; and
      (2) /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/img/ .
    4. The home page for this mini website is: /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/garden_frames.html . This page consists of 3 frames in the form of 3 rows with dimensions of: 38%, 47%, and 15%, respectively. [Note the existence of the following 'Frame Target Names': headerlogo, centerdisplay, footernav, respectively.]  Row #1 is headerlogo.html; it contains 2 images (img/mrnt_arsle_500x50.gif) and (img/workislove_302x15_h.jpg).  Row #2 is centerdisplay.html and it contains 1 image (img/vision_arsle_215x45_v.jpg), as well as a javascript text scroller. Row #3 is footernav.html and it does not contain any images.
    5. Protect the one and only image on centerdisplay.html: /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/img/vision_arsle_215x45_v.jpg . [This image also appears on centerdisplay_photos.html, a page containing a javascript image scroller that will be tested in the scenario following this one, as well as the stylesheet: gardenframes.css.]
    6. Protect the two images on headerlogo.html: /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/img/mrnt_arsle_500x50.gif  as well as: /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/img/workislove_302x15_h.jpg .
    7. In addition, protect the one image on construction_ffffcc.html, used often throughout this mini website: /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/img/thumb_family_tree.gif .
    8. Add tag clips to FRAMESET page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/garden_frames.html.
    9. No entries in Dynamic Content box are necessary.
    10. No manual editing of any html code with < !PROTECT> < !/PROTECT> is needed.
    11. Click Submit button on cc mgr toolbar to send settings to the server.
    12. ADDITIONAL TESTING: This mini website will also display within the QAMALL nested frameset. Refer to the URL test for: qamall-geeks-lime.html .  IMPORTANT: Before protection will work for 'My Garden' from within the QAMALL nested frameset, however, add tag clips to the 2 FRAMESET pages which make the lime page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/qamall-geeks-lime.html and http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/contents1-geeks-lime.html. Then click on 'Frame Websites' from within the LIME page. Scroll down to Single Frameset with JavaScripts & CSS. The link is called: 'My Garden'. [If the user feels lost or needs to view the URL for the page, a right-click on the mouse will open a menu offering the option of 'Open Frame in New Window'.]
    Testing in the Browser:
    1. Empty browser cache.
    2. Browse to: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/garden_frames.html.
    3. On this simple frameset page, verify that three (3) images are protected before clicking on any link:  (1) 'M. Ruth Navon Toal', (2) 'Work is love made visible.', and (3) 'My Vision' on the vertical. Confirm that all elements of protection correctly appear. The 'M. Ruth Navon Toal' image is a transparent gif whose transparency may become apparent when it is protected.
    4. The middle scrolling frame, containing the 'My Vision' image on the vertical, should display scrolling text. If it does not, then protection is interfering with the javascript text scroller.
    5. Hover over the dropdown menu options (Home, Basics, Trees, Flowers, Bushes, Herbs, Vines, Monthly To Do List). All links in the dropdown menu options work and bring up construction_ffffcc.html, albeit in the top frame. The file: construction_ffffcc.html is governed by the external stylesheet: gardenframes.css which causes the links to change colors and expand when approached. This action should remain in place even with protection in place. The browser BACK button should fully refresh the simple frameset and restore it correctly, not interfering with the scrolling text in the middle frame.
    6. 'Return to: garden_frames.html' should fully refresh the simple frameset and restore it.
    7. Click on links in the bottom navigation bar (which is actually footernav.html). All links in this bottom navigation bar---except the PHOTOS link---should display in the middle, scrolling frame: 'Planting is still in progress. Go Back.' (construction_ffffcc.html). If they do not, then the target in the anchor is not working due to protection. That target is: target="centerdisplay" for all links in the bottom navigation bar.
    8. Hover over the top dropdown menu option 'Basics' and choose PHOTOS. This link will display centerdisplay_photos.html and produce a vertical scrollbar in the top frame. Centerdisplay_photos.html is a collection of scrolling photos. FYI: It is the javascript that fails to target the middle frame, thereby displaying the scrolling images in the top frame, which is the defaulting target of '_self'.
    9. dropdown menu options work and bring up construction_ffffcc.html, albeit in the top frame.
    10. This mini website will also display within the QAMALL nested frameset.

What do I check for? [ top ]

    In Browser:
    • Does top dropdown menu navigation fail to drop down because of protected image?
    • Does protected image obstruct dropdown menu?
    • If protected image obstructs the dropdown menu, do the links in the dropdown menu continue to work?
    • The vertical image 'My Vision', in the middle frame, requires scrolling to see all of it. When it is protected, does scrolling up and down to view this protected image result in any strange extra effects?
    • The links in the bottom navigation bar are coded to correctly target the middle frame (target="centerdisplay") and display pages there, in the middle frame. Does protection elsewhere on the site interfere with targeting a named frame?
    • Does protecting an image on a page containing javascripted scrolling text interfere with the scrolling text or the display of the image?
    • The links in the top javascripted drop-down navigation bar are coded to correctly target the top frame (by default) and display pages there, in the top frame. Does protection in the top frame, and elsewhere on the site, interfere with targeting a defaulted frame ('_self')?

Images in a Simple Frameset with JS Image Scroller (target='_self' and target="centerdisplay"):

    How do I protect? [ top ]

    In CC Manager:
    1. Retrieve testsite/qamall (Get List).
    2. Open the directory: frames_singleset and un-protect all images in this directory to avoid interference with this javascript image scroller test.
    3. Sort cc mgr by: Displayed In column.
    4. The file: centerdisplay_photos.html contains a total of 12 images. All of them----except vision_arsle_215x45_v.jpg----are manipulated by the javascript image scroller and are links which use frame/window targeting by the 'reserved' name:  target='_self'.  Protect all images 'Displayed In' this file: /testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/centerdisplay_photos.html.
    5. Add tag clips to FRAMESET page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames_singleset/garden_frames.html.

Ruth Navon Toal' image is a transparent gif whose transparency should not be apparent when it is unprotected.
    4. The middle scrolling frame, containing the 'My Vision' image on the vertical, should display scrolling text. If it does not, then protection is interfering with the javascript text scroller.

Images in a Nested Frameset Defined in One File:

    How do I protect? [ top ]

    In CC Manager:
    1. retrieve testsite/qamall/frames_base_target (Get List).
    2. sort cc mgr by image name.
    3. Each html page in this directory whose name begins with from1_ or from2_ is designed to load in the nested frame called: 3.html. Each html page whose name begins with from1_ contains only one image. Each html page whose name begins with from2_ contains at least three images. The images contained in these pages are the 'nested' images. Protect them all. Later the tester can pick & choose which images to protect based on the suggestions given.
    4. Whether a nested frameset is defined in one single file (as it is in html page: company_move.html) or in separate files (as it is in html pages: qamall-geeks-lime.html  and  contents1-geeks-lime.html), all protected, nested images will display with CC wallpaper unless the relevant FRAMESET pages are protected by tag clips in CC Mgr.
    5. add tag clips to the ONE FRAMESET page (contains frame nesting): http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames_base_target/company_move.html.
    6. No entries in Dynamic Content box are necessary.
    7. No manual editing of any html code with < !PROTECT> < !/PROTECT> is needed.
    8. Click Submit button on cc mgr toolbar to send settings to the server.
    Testing in the Browser:
    1. empty browser cache.
    2. Close PC-Anywhere software.
    3. browse to http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames_base_target/company_move.html.
    4. This page is a nested frameset and should match this picture. Following the protection instructions above, no images are protected in this display of 1.html, 2.html, and 3.html. Respectively, these pages are arranged as follows: The left column of bulleted links (i.e., Darren, Larry & Itzy, Sarah, Benny, etc.) with its own scroll bar is Frame1 (1.html). The top 'Welcome from Alchemedia Staff' is Frame2 (2.html). The lower right scrollable area is Frame3 (3.html). Frame2 and Frame3 are the nested frames.
    5. Click on any link in Frame1 (e.g., Darren, Larry & Itzy, Sarah, Benny, etc.). One protected picture should appear in Frame3 (the BASE target).
    6. Click on any link in Frame2 (e.g., Reception, Accounting, MIS Dept, QA, Development, Misc). For any of these links, three or more protected images should appear in Frame3 (the BASE target). **Only the QA and Accounting links will display images that are, themselves, linked to other pages. These linked images rely on the BASE tag in the head of the document to place the targeted page in the correct frame, that is Frame3.
    7. During the process of testing the QA and Accounting links in Frame2, and after clicking on one of the protected, nested images that will display (for example, 016_22_186x132.jpg (Benny at Work) on html page from2_4qadept.html)----that is, when testing whether the image still works as a link----use the browser's BACK button to revert Frame3 back to the series of 3-4 images. Doing so will allow you to test whether the other protected images in the series still work as links.
    8. Click on the link (Refresh Frame 3) in Frame1 to restore Frame3 to html page 3.html.

What do I check for? [ top ]

    In CC Manager:

    In Browser:
    • Following the protection instructions above, does http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames_base_target/company_move.html match this picture. Although protected by tag clips in CC Mgr, does this page display as fully unprotected as it should? The gifs in 1.html and 3.html should not be protected.
    • Does clicking on the links in Frame2 (e.g., Reception, Accounting, MIS Dept, QA, Development, Misc) cause Frame3 to display a series of at least 3 protected images?  For example:  The QA link in Frame2 should display html page: from2_4qadept.html in Frame3. This page, from2_4qadept.html, contains 4 images which link to other pages (e.g., from1_4benny.html, from1_4benny.html, from1_10bibsiminette.html, and from2_6miscphotos.html, respectively) also designed to appear in Frame3 (because of the BASE tag in the document's head). Three questions to ask are: are all the images in from2_4qadept.html protected? Do their links work as they did before protection? After linking, are the images in the destination page protected and are these destination pages displaying in Frame3?
    • Does scrolling in Frame3 negatively affect the display of protected images?
    • Repeat these questions using the Accounting link in Frame2. Clicking on the Accounting link in Frame2 should display html page: from2_2acctg.html in Frame3. This page, from2_2acctg.html, contains 3 images which link to other pages (e.g., from1_7raffy.html, from1_8judmarina.html, and from1_5irit.html, respectively) also designed to appear in Frame3.
    • Are all the images in from2_2acctg.html protected? Do their links work as they did before protection? After linking, are the images in the destination page protected and are these destination pages displaying in Frame3?

Images in a Nested Frameset Defined in Separate Files:

    How do I protect? [ top ]

    In CC Manager:
    1. retrieve testsite/qamall (Get List).
    2. sort cc mgr by image name.
    3. To avoid interference during this test, confirm that these images are not protected: LIME page (img src='tabs-opt/tab1-green/tab-1-of-6-alchemedia.jpg'); ORANGE page (img src='tabs-opt/tab2-orange/tab-2-of-4_r1_c1.gif'), (img src='tabs-opt/tab2-orange/tab-2-of-4_r1_c2.gif'), (img src='tabs-opt/tab2-orange/tab-2-of-4_r1_c3.gif'), (img src='tabs-opt/tab2-orange/tab-2-of-4_r1_c4.gif'), (img src='tabs-opt/tab2-orange/tab-2-of-4_r1_c5.gif'); PURPLE page (img src='tabs-opt/tab3-purple/tab-3-of-6.gif'); and, SALMON page (img src='tabs-opt/tab4-salmon/tab-4-of-4.gif'). These are mapped images which target other frames in the website. Protecting them constitutes another, different test. Refer to Mapped Images in a Nested Frameset.
    4. directly protect every instance of these images on your site's static pages: (img src="img/f_button_lime.gif"), (img src="img/f_button_orange.gif"), (img src="img/f_button_purple.gif"), and (img src="img/f_button_salmon.gif"). These images are all found in the qamall/frames/img directory.
    5. add tag clips to the 2 FRAMESET pages which make the lime page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/qamall-geeks-lime.html and http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/contents1-geeks-lime.html. The file qamall-geeks-lime calls contents1-geeks-lime.html which, in turn, calls homebody-basic-html.html (which contains the image: f_button_lime.gif).
    6. add tag clips to the 2 FRAMESET pages which make the orange page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/qamall-geeks-orange.html and http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/contents2-geeks-orange.html. The file qamall-geeks-orange calls contents2-geeks-orange.html which, in turn, calls homebody-dhtmlonly.html (which contains the image: f_button_orange.gif).
    7. add tag clips to the 2 FRAMESET pages which make the purple page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/qamall-geeks-purple.html and http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/contents3-geeks-purple.html. The file qamall-geeks-purple calls contents3-geeks-purple.html which, in turn, calls homebody-purple.html (which contains the image: f_button_purple.gif).
    8. add tag clips to the 2 FRAMESET pages which make the salmon page: http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/qamall-geeks-salmon.html and http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/contents4-geeks-salmon.html. The file qamall-geeks-salmon calls contents4-geeks-salmon.html which, in turn, calls homebody-dynamic.html (which contains the image: f_button_salmon.gif).
    9. FYI: The frameset pages are standard html pages---listed in the CC Mgr site map---which call other static pages by name. Frameset pages most likely will not contain an image src tag. They will, however, contain the frameset opening and closing tags. Furthermore, there most likely will not be any indication in the source code of a frameset page that it is a member of another 'higher level' frameset. That information is known to those who built and/or maintain the site.
    10. No entries in Dynamic Content box are necessary.
    11. No manual editing of any html code with < !PROTECT> < !/PROTECT> is needed.
    12. Click Submit button on cc mgr toolbar to send settings to the server.
    Testing in the Browser:
    1. empty browser cache.
    2. browse to http://net1.csafe.com/testsite/qamall/frames/qamall-geeks-lime.html.
    3. The lime-colored 'Go to No Frames Version' button should be protected. It is a transparent gif.
    4. Click on the DHTML ONLY tab to surf to the ORANGE page.
    5. The orange-colored 'Go to No Frames Version' button should be protected. It is also a transparent gif.
    6. Click on the 3rd tab, IMAGE COLLECTIONS, to go to the PURPLE page.
    7. The purple-colored 'Go to No Frames Version' button should be protected. It is not a transparent gif.
    8. Click on the browser BACK button to leave the purple page.
    9. Click on the 4th tab, ALL THINGS DYNAMIC, to go to the SALMON page.
    10. The salmon-colored 'Go to No Frames Version' button should be protected. It is not a transparent gif.

What do I check for? [ top ]

    In CC Manager:

    In Browser:
    • Does scrolling up & down affect the protected image?
    • The black text (in lowercase) on the lime, orange, purple, and salmon-colored grid---under the colored tabs BASIC HTML, DHTML ONLY, ALL THINGS DYNAMIC---are actually mapped images. They link to various sections in the lower page (frame). Do these maps still jump to their respective sections?
    • Only on the LIME and ORANGE pages---colored tabs BASIC HTML and DHTML ONLY---when the surfer hovers over one of the links in the lower page (frame), a small red, blinking arrowhead should appear to draw attention to the fact that the surfer is hovering over that link. Does this blinking red arrowhead continue to appear when an image on the page has been protected? FYI: all affected links are underlined and have extra spacing between the link and its bullet. (The extra spacing is required by the blinking red arrowhead.)
    • Anything else?
